The hybrid course modality combines in-person meetings with some online class time, requiring a solid grasp of online teaching skills.
Hybrid courses combine online instruction with limited in-person meetings throughout the semester. Hybrid courses can take place in standard or accelerated formats. Online instruction in Canvas is a key component of every hybrid course.
Fully Online classes are just that: there is no face to face or synchronous component. Conventional online classes (not accelerated or flex) start each week on Tuesday and wrap up on the following Monday, with assignment and discussion post due dates in between. CCV faculty are prepared for online classes* by taking the Introduction to Online Teaching course, which is a 5-week course that covers the pedagogy of teaching online. Our standards for quality online course delivery are covered in our Best Practices and Expectations for Quality Online Teaching document, included on the last page of the Course Design Rubric. Engagement in discussion are a key component of online classes at CCV. We prepare students new to online by enrolling them in a Canvas Basics workshop that they have access to long after the workshop is over.
*as well as synchronous and hybrid!
